Free eBooks Available from North Shore Library

You may download eBooks for your eReader through the North Shore Library website.

Do you have a brand new eBook reader, like a Kindle, Sony, Nook or iPad? Now you need something to read on it, and you can get those for free from the website. It works just like checking out a print book, except that eBooks are never overdue or lost in the sofa cushions. You can reserve them, check them out and return them as you might a book. When the eBook is due, it is automatically returned and disappears from your computer or device so there is never an overdue fine.  An eBook is just a digital version of a print book that has been optimized for on-screen reading.

There is lots of information, how-to tips and Frequently Asked Questions on the County Cat system. Either go to the North Shore Website and click on County Cat or go to County Cat directly. Roll your cursor over “eBooks and Databases” at the top. A dropdown menu appears. Click on “Overdrive." To use Overdrive you will need a valid library card, a PIN number and some free software that can be downloaded to your computer or device. To get started, you may want to watch the “Digital books Tour” and read through some of the FAQ’s.

The Digital Download Center is where you can log into your account and check out books. You can either search for a specific title or can browse titles. You can browse new additions, items just checked in, recommended items and the most popular downloads. By clicking on the book cover, you can see which books are now available or how many are on the waiting list if it is checked out. It will also tell you which formats are available, a summary of the story as well as some other recommended titles. You are sure to find something that intrigues you.
