Getting Some Help with Summer Reading List

When you are looking for just the right book to read, there are some resources that may just help.

Finding just the right book to read for the moment can sometimes be tricky when there are so many books to choose from. Maybe you remember a character and would like to read more from that series. Maybe you finished a book and would love another book similar to it.  Maybe you are looking for a particular kind of mystery book. There are some resources in the Reference Collection that just might help.

What Do I Read Next? A Reader’s Guide to Current Genre Fiction (025.54 W555 Reference) is a two-volume resource loaded with information about fiction books for adults. You will not find current best sellers in this resource, but there are lots of lists for those books. What you will find are thousands of titles that have been carefully selected. They are divided into sections for mystery, romance, western, fantasy, horror, science fiction, historical, inspirational and popular. Experts in each field compiled the list for their genre and wrote an essay that appears in the beginning of that section.

Each entry includes lots of information about the book including a summary, characters and a list of other books you might like that are similar. The indexes are really helpful in finding a particular book. You can look a book up by series, time period, where it takes place, the specific type such as “Psychological Suspense”, subject, character’s name, character’s description such as “Photojournalist”, author or just plain title.  Sound helpful?  It really can be and is lots of fun to just browse.

If you are a mystery fan, you may enjoy looking for a new author or an old book friend in What Mystery do I Read Next? A Reader’s Guide to Recent Mystery Fiction (025.54 W555M Reference).  Again the word “recent” may be a bit deceptive since these books are mostly ones published between 1989 and 1996.  The 1,800 entries in this volume were selected by Steven A. Stilwell, an authority on the mystery genre.  It also has similar indexes which are helpful and just fun to browse.

We hope you find your perfect summer read.  Enjoy!
