4th Drunken Driving Arrest in 5 Years for Milwaukee Man

Bayside police nab a man accused of his fourth operating while intoxicated offense, after he was observed driving erratically, and later found to be driving with a blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit.

A 47-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of his fourth drunken driving offense in five years, after Bayside police pulled him over on April 27, driving with a blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit.

Monroe Walton II was charged April 29 with one felony count of operating while intoxicated (fourth offense in five years), one felony count of operating with prohibited alcohol concentration (fourth offense in five years) and one count of misdemeanor operating while revoked.

If convicted, he faces up to 13 years imprisonment, or 22,500 in fines, or both. Because he is accused of four OWIs over five years, Walton would face a minimum of no more than 6 months imprisonment, or a $600 fine, or both, if convicted.

The officer followed the SUV, driven by Walton, according to the criminal complaint. He was observed driving erratically, including crossing the marked lane line, not coming to a complete stop, making a wide right turn and turning without a signal. Walton entered a parking lot in the 9300 block of Port Washington Road, nearly hitting a curb, at which time the officer conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop, Walton smelled of alcohol, was very unsteady on his feet and fumbled through his wallet several times when asked for his driver's license. He also slurred his speech, and had bloodshot eyes, the criminal complaint reads.

When asked if he had been drinking, Walton told the office he had been a beer earlier.

During a chemical test, Walton registered a 0.20 blood alcohol content, the criminal compliant reads.

A check of police records showed Walton had previous OWI convictions and his license was revoked, according to the court documents.

Walton, who is currently in the custody of the Milwaukee County Jail, is due in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, according to online court records.
