On Saturday, two men were seen walking around the closed, locked gate into the Fox Point Department of Public Works yard. One of the men was carrying a shovel, and the other carried a plastic garbage can in hand. Officers followed them, opening the gate and going through the parking lot to see what the men were up to. Police approached the men and discovered they weren't even from the village.

One is 56 years old and the other 60, both from Milwaukee. The 56-year-old attempted to explain to police that his truck was stuck in his father's lawn at an address on North Lake Drive. He told police that they were looking for salt or sand to help the truck get traction, but only found top soil, and only took a little.

Officers made them return the soil they had attempted to steal, and arrested both men, issuing citations for theft and trespassing.
