Bayside Woman Charged With Prescription Fraud

Woman, 36, wrote a fake prescription for Vicodin while working at a medical clinic in Glendale.

A 36-year-old Bayside woman is facing felony charges after she was caught filling a fake prescription for Vicodin at the CVS Pharmacy in Fox Point.

Kimberly Dawn Smith was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

Smith obtained the fake prescription while working for a Wheaton Franciscan Health Group medical clinic in Glendale and took it to the pharmacy to get 40 Vicodin pills. An internal investigation by the medical group discovered the fraud and alerted Glendale police.

She was located and arrested during a traffic stop where she had Hydrocodone pills and marijuana in her car. Smith admitted to the fraud, saying she has an addiction to Vicodin.

Smith will make her initial appearance in court Nov. 16.
