A bullet from a practice range was found on the floor of the boys locker room at Bayside Middle School Friday afternoon.

"We are treating this as a serious disciplinary issue and appropriate steps are being taken to determine the student(s) responsible and to assure an incident such as this does not occur in the future," she said in an email.

"We are grateful for the maturity of the students who reported seeing the item on the floor and for (Principal Don) Galster’s proactive approach in dealing with the situation," Boechler added.

Even in the wake of the recent spa shooting in Brookfield and the Sikh Temple shooting, this isn't a real to jump to conclusions Bayside Police Chief Bruce Resnick said.

"Parents have nothing to worry about," he said. "Finding a bullet, it's not unprecedented at that school. It's happened in the past. I would not jump to any kind of conclusion whatsoever."

Police reports show Principal Don Galster called in the bullet to police at 3:25 p.m. According to police, he found the bullet an hour earlier around 2:25 p.m. Resnick said the department has received multiple phone calls from concerned parents.

"In 31 years that Ive been here, they've never found a gun in the school," he said.
