Butler Man Gives Light Pole The Ax

A Butler man is spotted by a DOT traffic camera cutting apart the light pole Sunday afternoon and is later arrested when he returns to the scene. The metal shavings in the back of his truck gave him away to police.

A Butler man is facing charges after he allegedly cut apart and stole a downed light pole at the onramp for southbound Highway 45 at West Silver Spring Drive Sunday afternoon.

Guy Roy Tengel, 47, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of theft and one count of criminal damage to property. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 4:38 p.m. Sunday, Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies were called to the onramp after Tengel was spotted cutting apart the light pole. The incident was caught on a Wisconsin Department of Transportation traffic camera in the area and Tengel was identified by the license plates on his truck. The pole is valued at $5,043.

Tengel later returned to the location and was pulled over. The inside of the back of his truck was full of metal shavings.

He’s currently free on a $500 signature bond while awaiting trial.

You have a point. I'd say you can afford a few of those for $8

Just watched the full report and HE DID NOT cut the pole down it clearly says a "downed light pole".I know this man, he is a sweet, kind hearted man, he has been out of work for a while and has 4 kids to support, ALONE. He would never hurt a living sole. No one knows his personal cicumstances and anyone who says they have never struggled or made a mistake in their life is a liar. Why are'nt we worried about the real criminals out there, you know the murderers, drug dealers ect. Now obviously I am biased because I know his true nature, and kind heart, but really don't we have bigger fish to fry here. He's just a normal guy trying to get by. AND he didn't realize the seriousness of this act I am sure.

Well that actually makes more sense. Still can't steal property we have a huge scrapping problem in our yard and I chase guys out once a week. It's very close to this location maybe he has seen me through the rear view mirror once or twice.
