Citizen's Police Academy Kicks Off Spring Classes

A behind-the-scenes look at crime scene investigation, use of force and more.

When the police academy started, entrance was simple. If you needed a job and knew a local chief, he'd say, Today prospective officers endure a 10- or 12-week course, hours of on-the-job training and reports and testing.

The Citizen's Police Academy allows residents to get a small taste of that process, learning about, , and more. You can even go on a ride-along with an officer.

The next session for Citizen's Police Academy kicks off April 19 and classes are open for signup now.

Classes take place at the , 7300 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., April 19 through May 31. There is also one optional Saturday morning class for a firearms training where residents will have the opportunity to try their hand at learning how officers use force and the quick decision process of deciding when and where to shoot.

Enrollment is happening now and space is limited. There is no fee to participate, and the minimum age is 21.
