Crime Corner: Driver Tells Officer He's Just a 'Little Tipsy'

A 45-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for operating while intoxicated Saturday after he told officers that he just "got a little tipsy."

A officer noticed a car heading toward the on-ramps for Interstate 43 from Brown Deer Road around 2:48 a.m. After the car stopped at the top of the on-ramp to head north on I-43, it started up again and headed toward the I-43 south ramp, nearly striking the curb as it crossed lanes according to the report.

The officers notes in his report that the driver crossed the temporary tape on I-43 as he drove south, weaving back and forth from Brown Deer Road to Good Hope Road.

The driver got off the interstate at Good Hope Road, finally stopping near Pheasant Road. When the officer approached the driver and asked if he knew why he was being stopped, he said: "We just took my cousin home. We just left the bar."

The officer also asked how much the man had drank that evening. He said, "A little bit, couple drinks." He said he had finished his last drink about an hour ago and was able to complete most of the alphabet before adding some incorrect letters.

After attempting the alphabet, the man admitted to the officer that his license was suspended.

The report says he told officers, "We all got a little tipsy," and that he was just trying to get his cousins home.

The preliminary breath test revealed the man had a blood alcohol level of 0.116. He was cited for operating while intoxicated, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration, and operating after suspension.

  • On Sept. 29, a Fox Point woman stopped into the Fox Point police Department to report that $1,450 worth of jewelry was stolen from her apartment at the . Officers interviewed a cleaning lady who works for the victim and are following up with a carpet cleaning crew that also recently was in the apartment.
  • A 21-year-old Cedarburg man was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Sept. 28 for an outstanding warrant through Grafton police after he was caught going 70 mph in a 54-mph zone on County Line Road. He paid the $135 fine when he got to the station and was released.
  • An estimated $4,150 worth of jewelry was stolen from a woman in the 800 block of East Ellsworth Lane. The 62-year-old woman told Bayside police sometime that between 5 a.m. Aug. 23 and 10 a.m. Sept. 28, someone stole seven pieces of her jewelry from a small jewlery box in the top drawer of her night stand. The report says there were no signs of forced entry and police are still investigating.
