Crime Corner: Man Tries to Outrun Police, A Fender-Bender and More Unlocked Vehicles

The latest reports from the Fox Point and Bayside police departments.

A 20-year-old New Berlin man thought he could outfox , however trying to run and hide just nabbed him another citation. 

A Fox Point police officer was out on patrol at 3:46 a.m. Saturday when he noticed a car traveling much faster than the posted speed limit on North Port Washington Drive. The officer activated his emergency lights, however, the man did not pull over. He hit the gas and fled eastbound on West Bergen Drive. 

As the officer turned onto the road, he didn’t see any vehicles. There was standing water, but the report says he didn't see any tire tracks passing through he water. He turned around and headed back, finding the car parked in a driveway with its engine and lights off.

When the officer approached the car, he found a man lying down across both of the front seats attempting to hide from view. As the officer spoke with the man, he could smell alcohol on his breath.

The man admitted to having three or four drinks earlier in the evening at his brother’s house while his mother was there. He also admitted that he knew the officer was trying to pull him over, but attempted to hide because, “I didn’t want to get an OWI.” He said he was trying to head back to his brother's house on Hampton Avenue.

He was arrested for operating while under the influence. The intoximeter at the station showed a blood alcohol level of 0.133. He was also cited for prohibited alcohol concentration and failure to obey officer’s signal, and was given warnings for speeding and underage drinking. He was released to his mother at 6:20 a.m.

  • Saukville police detained a 54-year-old Saukville man at 2:27 a.m. on Wednesday. His bond was for $139, or five days in jail. He was unable to pay the fine, so Fox Point Police picked him up at the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department and transported him to the Milwaukee County Jail.
  • responded to a car accident at 5 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Ellsworth Lane and Rexleigh Drive. A 20-year-old River Hills woman was making a right turn off Rexleigh Drive onto Ellsworth Lane when she hit an oncoming car, driven by a 45-year-old Milwaukee woman. The Milwaukee woman was heading straight through the intersection. The River Hills woman was cited for inattentative driving.

  • While patroling the 100 block of East Spooner Road at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday, a Fox Point officer noticed graffiti on a bulletin board at Indian Creek Park. It had been spray-painted with blue letters that appeared to spell “The.” The report says the design was created by using a stencil. The officer walked through the park, but did not find any other evidence of spray-paint being used.

  • On Aug. 8 just before 4 p.m., Fox Point officers visited a home in the 300 block of East Acacia Road to follow up on a theft complaint. An 18-year-old man said he had parked his car in the driveway, unlocked at 8 a.m. Aug. 6. He told officers he noticed the dome light was on two days later, but he didn't investigate. At 11 a.m., Aug 8., he went to check out his vehicle and found items had been removed from his glove box and placed on the passenger seat. A GPS, with an estimated value of $100, had also been removed from the car.
