Crime Corner: Stolen Glasses, Outstanding Warrants and a Man With a Gun?

Reports from Fox Point and Bayside police departments.

A 47-year-old Milwaukee man was cited for two counts of theft, and one for obstruction by after he lied to police about stealing a pair of glasses.

On March 21, a man was visiting Innovative Optique in the Audubon shopping center. He left the store on foot and was found at , where police had been called because he was shoplifting some candy bars. Surveillance footage shows man stealing candy bars.

Officers questioned the man and found he had two outstanding warrants. The man did not admit to stealing the glasses, but once he was searched, they found them inside an inner coat pocket.

The fines given for the citations are based upon the value of the item stolen. So while a candy bar may be worth $1.50, the fine will be much more depending on the items value. The citations included one for theft at $1,311 for the stolen frames, a second for theft for the stolen candy bars at $145, and the final citation was for obstruction for $681 because the man lied to police, for a total of $2,137 in fines.

  • On March 24, Brookfield police had a 33-year-old Milwaukee woman in custody with an outstanding warrant for operating a vehicle with a suspended license by . She was unable to pay the fine and was transported to the Milwaukee County jail.Β 
  • Bayside police received a call on March 22 stating that someone in the 8900 block of Rexleigh Drive was walking around with a gun. Police investigated, but never found anyone wandering with a gun.
