Crime Corner: Unlocked Garage Leads to Stolen Vehicle

Reports from Fox Point and Bayside police departments.

On Saturday, responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 7000 block of North Belmont Lane.

On Jan. 29, the owner of the vehicle went out of town with her husband. Her adult son stayed at the home while they were on vacation. He told officers that he never checked on the vehicle because he had no need to go into the attached, unlocked garage. When his mother returned on Feb. 19, she noticed the vehicle was missing and called the police.

The son told officers that he left his car keys in the center console of the unlocked vehicle, which also had its windows down. Another vehicle was in the same garage, but had a dead battery and did not seem to be tampered with. The missing vehicle is a silver, 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer.
