Crime Corner: Vandalism, Some Stolen Cigarettes and More OWIs

Reports from Fox Point and Bayside police departments.

On Jan. 15 Fox Point police arrested a 51-year-old Milwaukee man when he was deviating from his lane in the 7800 block of North Port Washington Road around 10:30 p.m. His 17-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle at the time.

Police decided to investigate when he deviated into a turn-only lane, then back into a regular lane. After running the plates, the officer discovered that the registered owner of the vehicle, a Milwaukee woman, had an expired license.

After the officer pulled the vehicle over, he found a male driver in the front seat.

The officer wrote in his report that he smelled a strong odor of intoxicants from the driver's breath. The driver also exhibite slurred speech and glassy eyes. Officers asked him how much he had to drink, and he stated he had only two or three beers.

Officers continued by conducting a field sobriety test where the man could not walk a straight line. The man was so intoxicated that officers stopped the test early for the driver's safety. A breathalyzer test concluded the man had a blood alcohol level of 0.23.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a beer can in the back seat on the floor, and 11 more empty cans with one unopened. Most of them were under the front passenger seat. The driver was issued citations for operating while intoxicated as a first offense, prohibited alcohol content, and open intoxicant. The driver was picked up by a friend from the police department.

  • Bayside police responded to a vandalism call at 8:04 a.m. Jan. 14 in the 1200 block of East Fairy Chasm Road. A personal lamp post had damage to three of its four supporters, and the light bulb was broken. No dollar amount of damage has been specified yet.
  • At 7:22 p.m. Jan. 15, a woman called Fox Point police about a theft from Cru Group Home Bayside Manor. Turns out she wasn't missing diamonds and jewels, but a pack of cigarettes that the staff had confiscated because residents are not allowed to smoke in their rooms. Police left the matter with the nursing home.
  • At 2:29 a.m. Jan. 16, Fox Point Police responded to an operating while intoxicated incident in River Hills. A 27-year-old Sheboygan man was making an illegal U-turn at Brown Deer Road and Port Washington Road and was pulled over. Police completed a field sobriety test, and the man blew a blood alcohol content of 0.15 in a breath test.
