Dog Bites Fox Point Runner in the Hamstring

Police saw two bloody, puncture wounds in the mans leg when they arrived. The dog's owner said the dog must have felt threatened by the runner.

A Fox Point man was bit in the leg by a dog while running along Lake Drive. Officers noted in their report that there were visible puncture wounds in the man's hamstring. 

According to the report:

Someone called just before 7 p.m. July 30 to report that a runner in the 7100 block of North Lake Drive had been bit by a dog.

When officers arrived, a man was standing near the roadway, visibly limping and favoring his right leg. The 40-year-old Fox Point man said he was running south in the northbound lane of North Lake Drive. When he ran past one of the homes, a dog ran up and bit him on the back of his right leg. Officers could see he had bloody puncture holes on his hamstring. 

He told police at the time he was bit, he was straddling the white painted fog line.

The dog owner said she was exiting her home with her dog Gypsy to throw the ball around in the front yard and as they were walking, Gypsy took off toward the runner. She said she didn’t see what Gypsy was running to nor did she see the dog bite the runner. She called the dog back and put her in the house so she could go talk to the runner, but the man started shouting at her saying he would sue her, take her house and put the dog down. She said the dog had never run after anyone like that and it probably felt threatened by the runner.

The owner provided paperwork showing the dog had been vaccinated for rabies.

She was cited for animal attacks on a person, a fine of $177.
