Dump Trucks Filled With Pot Lead to 6 Years in Prison

A Franksville man was busted by authorities after the Greenfield Police Department acted on a tip from another case last fall.

A Franksville man found out this week a couple of dump trucks filled with marijuana not only carries a $7.2 million value on the street, but it is also worth a lengthy prison term as well.

John Gay, who plead guilty to one count of possession with intent to sell marijuana in July, was sentenced to 6 years in prison with an additional 3 years of extended supervision in Racine County Court this week, one year after police found more than nine tons of pot on his property.

Last fall, acting on a tip from a related case at the Greenfield Police Department, investigators obtained a warrant to search a property located at 2743 76th St. in Franksville, according to Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt.

There they found 1,850 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $7.2 million, as well as $120,000 in cash, firearms and financial records.

Editor's note: A previous version of the story had Gay's residence in the wrong municipality.

A man 100 yards from an elementary school where kids are playing and learning while he has people coming and going daily participating in illegal drug activity while armed with numerous guns for the drug aspect needs to do prison time. He grew the marijuana on someone else's property to try and escape detection. I work hard to pay my bills and support my family so anyone who sells millions of dollars worth of marijuana and is doing enough to pay dozens of employees should go to prison. Lets ignore the guns, trespassing, and drugs for a sec. Just the prison time he can get from the IRS for not paying taxes for the earnings will get him years in prison. I'm open minded to marijuana POSSIBLY being legal but it ISN'T. It is illegal. Fight to change the law. We're not talking personal use dime bags. We're talking dump trucks full of weed next to a school and he is making enough illegal money that he has over $100k in cash just sitting in a field. Doesn't seem fair to those of us who are contributing members to society and obey laws.

I however do agree that sentences for some crimes do not reasonably compare to others.

Note what else is at stake this election. It is civil liberties. If you want real justice for the war on drugs to end, vote for Gary Johnson, Libertarian, and tell all your friends to vote for him also. Both Obama and Romney are unfit for the office of the Presidency. Make a special note to watch the Free and Equal Election Debate between third party candidates, Gov. Gary Johnson and Dr. Jill Stein to be aired tonight on Monday evening, Nov. 5th from 9:00 - 10:30 pm Eastern Time. Perform a worthwhile civic duty, and be certain to listen in on this historic debate so that you can make an informed decision on voting day. Third party candidates who will be on the ballot in most states deserve to be heard. http://freeandequal.org/?v=1

Why would you carry pot in a dump truck anyway? You know you're going to get caught either way. Those people must've been high themselves.
