Fox Point Fender-Bender Turns Hit-and-Run

Woman cited for hit-and-run, however she did eventually return to the scene of the accident.

Even with a change of heart and returning to the crime scene, a 22-year-old Brown Deer woman was cited for hit-and-run after a too-quick escape from a parking stall left scratches down the length of an SUV.

Fox Point police responded to the hit-and-run call at 6:14 p.m. Aug. 8, outside of at the Riverpoint Village shopping center, 8781 N. Port Washington Rd., and took off.

The owner of the struck SUV, a 43-year-old Mequon woman, said she parked her vehicle at 6:05 p.m. and when she returned to it, was met by officers and a witness to the hit-and-run. The report cites damage to the left rear of the car, and scratches in front of the wheel well, continuing through the wheel and across the length of the left corner of the bumper. A headlight assembly was on the ground next the car as well.

The witness, a 41-year-old man from Winnetka, IL., said he was sitting outisde Noodles when he heard a crunching sound. When he looked over, he saw a woman backing out of a parking stall. The statement he gave police said the driver sat there for a minute, then pulled back into the parking stall, then back out and drove off in an easterly direction. He even noticed the plate number.

Officers ran the plate number and discovered it was registered to a home in Brown Deer. The officer left a message for the registered owner to contact Fox Point police. Shortly after, officers received a call from a 22-year-old Brown Deer woman who said she was driving the vehicle in Riverpoint earlier and struck a parked car.

Around 7:30 p.m., she arrived at the police department, as requested, with her mother. Her statement said she backed out of the parking stall and realized she hit the SUV next to her. She thought the scratch was minor, but panicked and left. She returned with her brother to the parking lot to find the vehicle she hit and leave her information, but could not find it. Officers viewed the damage to her vehicle and found it consistent with the damage to the other car. She was cited for hit-and-run and for an unattended vehicle.
