Fox Point Man Faces Charges After Hitting Mequon House With SUV

Suspect ran his Chevrolet Suburban into a house after he and two friends spent the night drinking on a boat in downtown Milwaukee.

A 23-year-old Fox Point man is facing multiple charges after he crashed his SUV into a Mequon house while driving drunk, causing severe damage to two of his friends.

David A. Werner III was charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court May 30 with one count of first offense operating while intoxicated, one count of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of possession of THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana. If convicted, he faces up to 14 years in prison and $28,000 in fines.

At 11 p.m. May 28 police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Haddonstone Place after Werner’s Chevrolet Suburban left the roadway and stuck a house. One man was lying outside of the SUV unconscious and covered in blood while Werner was inside the house and also covered in blood.

Werner told police he and two friends were drinking on a boat in downtown Milwaukee earlier in the night and was driving northbound on Haddonstone from Donges Bay Road when the vehicle left the roadway.

Werner had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 at the time of the incident, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin. Police officers also found a small amount of marijuana inside the SUV, which he said he planned to use later.

The unconscious man was taken to the hospital via Flight For Life due to life threatening injuries. A second passenger was also taken to the hospital after he suffered a fractured L2 vertebrae.

The condition of the victim’s are unknown at this time. Werner is free on $5,000 bail while awaiting trial.
