Fox Point Man Has 2 Cars Stolen, 2 Cars Recovered

A Fox Point man was the victim of two car thefts in three weeks, but the vehicles were recovered each time — and the same person was in each car.

According to police reports:

Officers responded to the 6900 block of Bartlett Lane on July 19 after a caregiver at the home reported a car stolen. She told police she had seen the 2010 black Mercedes SUV parked next to her van in the driveway about 5:15 p.m.; an hour later she came outside and saw the SUV missing and a bicycle now laying in the driveway. Her van was also rifled, but nothing was taken.

The car’s owner then spoke with police and confirmed that the car was unlocked and a set of keys was left in the glove box.

It was a similar circumstance to a July 2 incident a few blocks away. Again, keys were left in an unlocked vehicle outside his late father’s address. In that case, the vehicle was recovered five days later but the suspect was not charged due to lack of evidence, according to the reports.

In the case of the second stolen car, New Berlin police came across the same person driving it just before 6 a.m. July 22. He told police he was not involved in the theft and that a known car thief in his Milwaukee neighborhood had provided the car to drive the previous night for $40.  He was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
