Glenbulah Man Arrested for Using Charger at Best Buy Without Buying It

A 30-year-old Glenbulah man was arrested last week at , however it wasn't for theft but for charging his camera battery in the store and ruining the packaging.

were called by Best Buy security just after 1:30 p.m. on March 21 after seeing the man, with the opened a battery charger package, wandering the store.

According to the report:

Best Buy security told officers when they arrived that a man had opened a battery charger package and discarded the packaging; the man was still inside, wandering through the store.

Officers found the man looking at laptops and when they asked him to remove his hands from his pockets, he refused. He was handcuffed and searched. He admitted opening the battery charger and plugging in his camera battery over by the vacuums.

The charger was valued at $41.99.

He was cited for damage to property. During the booking process, he complained that he was being harassed and said he was the victim. He said Best Buy will just send the item back and not be out any money. Even after explaining that his actions cause a financial loss to both Best Buy, their supplier and to all customers in the means of higher prices, he still felt that he was justified because he had spent “a lot of money” at Best Buy in the past.
