Grafton Man Caught Driving Drunk in Bayside Saturday

Suspect is charged with his third OWI after a Bayside police officer spots him speeding on northbound I-43.

A 50-year-old Grafton man is facing drunk driving charges after he was caught speeding through Bayside Saturday morning.

Stephen Peter Rauch was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Tuesday with one count of third offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to one year in county jail and $2,000 in fines.

At 3:03 a.m. Saturday, a Bayside police officer on patrol spotted Rauch driving his Cadillac at 75 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour speed zone on northbound I-43. The officer pulled Rauch over and could immediately smell alcohol coming from the car.

Rauch said he had a few drinks before driving. He failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, which is twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

Rauch was previously convicted of OWI in 1989 and 2006. He will make his initial appearance in court July 23.
