Hit-and-Run Accident at St. Eugene

Fox Point Police have no suspects after someone hit the awning above a doorway, and left.

Once a doorway leading to the east parking lot near the playground equipment at St. Eugene's Catholic School, this area is now draped with caution tape and framed by orange cones. Lengthy wood braces support the roof from collapsing. And no one knows who did it.

Fox Point Police received a call from 's Business Manager Douglas Byers on June 13. He told police that an unknown person’s vehicle had struck and damaged the east entrance roof overhang. Byers stated that the damage was noticed June 6, and that he had called every delivery company that they work with in an effort to find who may have a truck large enough to cause that kind of damage.

But after numerous phone calls, he learned none of the companies use large box trucks big enough to strike the roof. All the normal vendors use regular, full-sized vans which would not reach the height needed to cause the damage.

The officer looked at the damaged roof, and noted in his report that the roof is pulled away from the building about four inches, where the roof and building meet on the south side. The brick support columns, which hold up the roof, were also damaged. Byers stated school officials are still assessing the extent of the damages, but it is estimated to be between $15,000 to $20,000.
