Sex Offender Suspected in Identity Theft Shopping Spree

This thief racked up $3,500 in credit card charges before the bank contacted the victim. After a background check, it turns out the suspect is a registered sex offender.

An Indiana man is being investigated by Fox Point police for racking up $3,500 in credit card charges on a Fox Point man's MasterCard.

According to the report:

A 64-year-old man came into the Fox Point Police Department on June 21 to report that his identity had been stolen. He said someone had used his MasterCard for two transactions totaling $3,500 at banks in Indiana.

He told police he received a call from MasterCard questioning him about the authenticity of the charges. He said he didn’t make them. She asked if the person who was recently added to the account and living in Indiana could have made the charges. The victim said he never consented for anyone to have access to the account.

Police checked the address for the authorized user on the Internet and the suspect is on Wisconsin's sex offender registry for a 2004 child enticement conviction.
