A 44-year-old Milwaukee man is charged with shoplifting from Kohl’s at Bayshore Mall, then trying to escape security and Glendale police officers.
Dion Lamont Summers was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Monday with one count of retail theft, one count of obstructing an officer and three counts of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 45 months in prison and $40,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
Glendale police officers were called to Kohl’s Saturday after a security guard saw Summers enter the store, take some merchandise and go into a fitting room from which he later emerged without the items. Summers then filled a shopping cart full of more merchandise and pushed it out the front door without paying.
Summers was stopped by a security guard, but he then left the cart and tried to shove his way past the guard. When officers arrived they found Summers lying in the parking lot, but when they approached him he got up and tried to escape.
He resisted officers, but was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody. Summers said his name was Desmond Tidwell, but officers determined his real name during the booking process.
He’s being held in Milwaukee County Jail while awaiting trial.
