Milwaukee Woman Arrested for OWI in Bayside

Officer asks for the keys and she hands him a soda can.

A 32-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested Saturday after she told , "I hate you."

The woman was parked on the street, outside of a home in the 9000 block of N. Bayside Dr. at about 10:15 p.m. A resident called police because the vehicle had been there for at least a half hour, with the lights on, and brake lights were going on and off periodically.

When the officer arrived, the headlights were on, but the car was not running. The woman was sitting in the drivers seat, eyes closed, and her head was leaning against the seat facing the driver-side window. The officer knocked on the window for 15-20 seconds before she finally opened her eyes. There was also a small dog sitting in the passenger seat.

When asked what she was doing, she told officers, "Nothing."

The officer asked her where she lived, and she replied, “Up the street.” So he asked for an address, and she said something like, “45.” She was non-responsive to other questions about why she was there and why she’d stopped. The officers could smell alcohol on her breath as she responded to his questions.

He asked her to remove the key from the ignition so that the chime would stop, but she couldn't because the car was still in drive. She was unable to get the car out of drive herself, so the officer put it in park and she was able to take the key out.

When asked her if she was a high school or college graduate, she was able to say college, but couldn’t remember which one. The officer began the sobriety test by having her recite the alphabet, and she got through five or six letters, but then become unintelligible. A short while later, she spontaneously started to say the alphabet, but it was more unintelligible than the first attempt.

The officer tried to call for a second squad so he could perform a field sobriety test, but the radio malfunctioned. He did not want to leave her with the keys, so he asked for them so that he could make that call from his squad.

First, she handed him a soda can, then a bottle of contact lense solution.

When asked to do the walk and turn test, she stumbled and was unable to complete it. As he explained the test, she began to cry. He asked if she wanted to try the test, and she said, "I hate you."

The officer asked her to walk to the front of the squad car. She said, “You’re going to place me under arrest.” He confirmed that he was, and she said “No,” and resisted by turning and facing him as he had her arm.

Another officer was just arriving to the scene and he kept her calm until he could receive assistance in handcuffing her. The woman’s father is a Bayside man. He came and picked up the car and took her into his custody after she blew a blood alcohol content of 0.24 and was cited for operating while under the influence.
