NSFD Report: Arcing Power Lines, Malfunctioning Wheelchairs

The latest reports from the North Shore Fire Department.

The North Shore Fire Department responded to a total of 119 calls for service, 73 EMS calls, and 46 fire and rescue calls from May 8 to 14 throughout the North Shore.

Here is a summary of the calls from Fox Point, Bayside, Whitefish Bay and Shorewood.

Fox Point

  • A blown transformer started a brush pile on fire around 2 p.m. Thursday in the 8300 block of North Santa Monica Boulevard. The fire was extinguished with a garden hose before firefighters arrived. There was no damage to nearby homes.

Bayside

  • An electrical pole and transformer caught fire in the 9700 block of North Lake Drive just before 3 p.m. May 9. WE Energies responded within 30 minutes of the call, and found a wire burned and the fuse blown. There was lightning and rain in the area at the time. No one was injured.
  • Bayside had another arcing power line around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 8800 block of Pelham Parkway. Power lines that were under construction were leaning against and burning a nearby tree. WE Energies came and fixed the power line.
  • The NSFD was called for additional power line problems in the 9500 block of North Port Washington Drive on May 15 just before 7 a.m. The power lines were arcing to nearby trees. WE Energies came and fixed the power line. 
  • In the 900 block of East Ellsworth Lane, a power line was down at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. A Bayside officer noticed that a tree was leaning on a power line and pulling it down. Officers stayed until WE Energies arrived.

Whitefish Bay

  • On May 12, someone was thrown from an ATV just before 1 p.m. near the Hill Academy. That person was transported to the hospital.
  • NSFD was called to a home in the 300 block of Fairmount Avenue on May 15 around 11 a.m. for a tree that was falling. The tree was slowly making its way out of the ground, but after reviewing the situation, determined that there were no cars or buildings in the way. The Department of Public Works was contacted. 

Shorewood

  • In the 3500 block of Oakland Avenue on May 15 at 4 p.m., a tree fell in the backyard of the home, pulling power lines from the house. WE Energies came on scene to handle the wires.
