NSFD Report: Fox Point Fire and a Hot Pan Forgotten

The latest reports from the North Shore Fire Department.

The responded to a total of 135 calls for service, 98 EMS calls, and 37 fire and rescue calls from June 20 to 26 throughout the North Shore.

Here is a summary of the calls from Fox Point and Bayside.

Fox Point

  • In the 7700 block of North Lake Drive, a 56-year-old home caught fire on June 20 at 5:29 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, they didn't see any flames outside the home, but the occupants said they could smell something burning. Crews found a light in the dinning room that was hot, and when they checked the attic above the dining room, they found the floor smoldering. The attic had blow insulation, so they began wetting down the hot spots. They opened the ceiling in the dining room and the pumped in foam to soak the area. The home did not have any working smoke detectors.
  • In the 6900 block of North Barnett Lane, a 90-year-old woman had set a pan on the stove to preheat it and forgot about it on June 21, at 5:25 p.m. Firefighters found light smoke from the scorched pan. There was no damage to the home and open windows and doors alleviated the smoke.Β 
  • Construction workers hit a gas line in the 500 block of East Willow Road on June 22 at 11:43 a.m. Firefighters arrived and reported visible gas coming from the ditch. WE Energies was called and they cut and plugged the line. NSFD checked surrounding homes for leaks and found none.

Bayside

  • At the Open Pantry, 501 W. Brown Deer Rd., a hose from a fuel pump burst and began spilling gas on June 24 at 4:58 p.m. The driver shut off the pump and another person hit the emergency shutoff to stop the leak. Less than three-quarters of a gallon had spilled. There was no pooling of gas.
