A 25-year-old West Bend woman tried to take a girlfriend out for her 21st birthday, but wound up snagging an OWI herself after flying by an officer at 81 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Bayside police were watching traffic in the 9100 block of northbound Interstate 43 just before 3 a.m. on Sept. 22, when they noticed a car fly by at 81 mph in a 55 mph zone. Police pulled the car over and when speaking with the driver, noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath and from inside the car.
When asked if she’d been drinking, she said she had two beers and went to pick up her girlfriend who was out for her 21st birthday and was also in the car with her the police report said. She said she was looking for her phone which is why she didn’t notice how fast she was going.
The report said the passenger looked at the officer and asked, “It’s my 21st birthday, can you please just let us go?” The driver was fumbling through several papers trying to find her insurance card, but never did. When asked for her license, she handed the officer a credit card thinking it was her license according to the report. When asked, she was able to recite the alphabet from C to T without any mistakes. However, she performed poorly on the other field sobriety tests police say. She completed a PBT which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.134. She was arrested and cited for OWI as well as cited for prohibited BAC.
