Police Investigating 2 Suspected of Writing Bad Checks at Local Carpet Store

Police say two men are being investigated for fraud at stores in Milwaukee and Brookfield in addition to writing bad checks to the tune of more than $4,500 at a Fox Point carpet store.

Fox Point police are investigating two men suspected of writing bad checks for more than $4,500 worth of carpet from a local business.

According to the police report, store employees at Kern’s Carpet, 8643 N. Port Washington Rd., told police a man and woman came into the store and purchased about $1,700 worth of carpeting.

Over the next week, the two came in three more times to purchase carpeting.

After the final purchase, the store was notified the first check was bad and linked to a closed account. 

When the two later returned to the store, police say one of the men was wearing woman’s clothing.

Fox Point police say the two men are suspected in similar incidents in Brookfield and Milwaukee and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating them.
