Police Log: Drunken Driver Nabbed; Retail Theft at Best Buy

A roundup of the latest from the Fox Point police reports.

Fox Point police arrested a man April 14 for drunken driving during a traffic stop for failing to come to a complete stop at flashing red lights.

At 2:55 a.m. a police squad was parked in the 7600 block of North Port Washington Road when he witnessed the driver fail to completely stop at a nearby intersection. Police made a traffic stop on the southbound I-43 on-ramp.

The driver told police he didn’t have a valid driver’s license, and that’s when police say they could smell alcohol on the man.

He failed field sobriety tests and registered a 0.13 blood alcohol content during a Breathalyzer.

He was also cited for driving after suspension, and warned for speeding and a stop light violation.

  • Police arrested one man for retail theft April 19 after authorities say he walked out of Best Buy without paying for a $109 GPS unit. According to the police report, cops received a report of a retail theft in progress at the retailer. The man was able to leave the scene before police arrived, but a nearby squad saw the man driving down North Port Washington Road in the 8100 block. Upon police contact, the driver said he didn’t steal anything, didn’t have any items on him and told police to search him. The man didn’t have any stolen items on him, but police say they found the GPS device in some grass off of Port Washington Road. Police say the man was on surveillance video taking the items. The suspect was cited for operating without a valid driver’s license, retail theft and obstructing an officer.
  • A Fox Point resident phoned police April 19 at 6:30 p.m. to report fraudulent use of his credit card to the tune of $2,675. The resident told police two laptops were purchased from Newegg.com, without his consent. The resident canceled his credit card, froze his credit and later canceled the Newegg orders.
