Police Report: Residential Vandals Strike Again in Bayside

For more than a month, Bayside residents have been picking up after random acts of vandalism have struck their properties, destroying items from planters to porch lights, car mirrors and windshield wipers.

For more than a month, Bayside residents have been dealing with vandals attacking their yards overnight — damaging everything from flower pots to porch lights, car mirrors to windshield wipers.

Donna Kleiner, 9348 N. Waverly Rd., was about to leave for work on July 10 and found her side-view mirror had been ripped off while her car was parked in the driveway. Her husband's windshield wiper had also been twisted, leaving them both out a couple hundred dollars for repairs.

"It's a little disconcerting because my kids are home," Kleiner said. "I mean, I lock my car at night but we are in and out, we leave the garage door open. We usually feel it’s a very safe community."

She called that morning and, when she mentioned she was missing her mirror, police knew exactly where it was. They showed up at her home with the mirror in hand, explaining it had come from a nearby yard where that homeowner also had been the victim of vandalism, in the 9200 block of North Broadmoor Road.

According to that report, the homeowner's car had $1,500 worth of damage to the passenger side door, looking as if someone had kicked it in. However, the owner wasn't sure where the damage had occurred.

The third incident of vandalism left a homeowner in the 9300 block of North Fairway Circle with some glass to clean up. Just before 1 a.m. July 9, he reported to police that someone was on his property and although police arrived just minutes later and searched they area, they were unable to find anyone.

When officers returned from searching, they found a large amount of broken glass in the driveway and on the front porch. The homeowner told officers this has been going on in that area of Bayside for a few weeks, according to the report.

He said he was awoken when he heard a loud noise come from the front of his home, like something had hit his home. He went out on his front porch and found broken glass all over, along with his garbage can knocked over at the end of the driveway. The only damage to the home was a chunk of wood that had been chipped out of the front wall near the door from a glass bottle striking it, according to the report.

In hit the same neighborhood of Bayside. Left behind was a destroyed mailbox, a pick-up truck's cab full of mulch and redistributed patio furniture.

just two weeks after that, hitting many of the same residents for a second time. A slew of porch lights were smashed and planting pots were destroyed. These incidents occurred on East Bay Point Road and Regent Road.

"It kind of makes me question a little bit more, makes me a little more cautious," Kleiner said.

Bayside Police were unavailable for comment.
