None of the people in the car – including a 13-year-old – had a valid driver's license, so police ordered for the vehicle to be towed. As the vehicle was being towed, a woman claiming to be the driver's mother arrived on the scene and chastised the officers, saying “You white cops have nothing better to do than tow cars.”

An employee at Sally Beauty Supply told police the suspects were trying to return items from the Sally Beauty Supply store in New Berlin. When police called the New Berlin store, an employee said two packages of hair were cut from the display hook the day before.
