Two teenage girls thought they could evade by darting into a home that didn't belong to either one of them. However, the perplexed look on the actual homeowners faces gave them away to police.

Just before 3 a.m. Jan. 13, Fox Point police were patrolling the area when they noticed two teenage girls running across a yard and looking into windows in the 500 block of West Bergen Drive.

As the officer walked up to the front door of the house, the officer noticed the girls were "under dressed" for the current weather conditions.

The girls were pounding on the front door and ringing the doorbell. The officer asked the girls what they were doing there, and one said that was their home.

That's when officers noticed the smell of alcohol.

While the girls were pounding on the door, the officer asked for their address. The girls pointed at each other to answer, but neither girl could provide the home address of the house they claimed to be their own. However, the address was posted on the wall right next to the front door.

A woman answered the door and one girl said, β€œHi mom,” and walked into the home as the other girl followed. A man was standing about 10 feet back and both had a puzzled look on their faces. The man said he didn't know the girls and they did not live there.

Officers escorted the girls back to the squad car.

After interviews, officers determined they were walking from to a home in the 8500 block of North Fox Croft Lane. The girls ran to the home and entered the house with the hopes of avoiding police. Preliminary breath tests showed 0.073 for the 13-year-old from Bayside and 0.129 for the 15-year-old from Fox Point.

Officers arrested and searched the girls, finding a multicolored glass pipe in the front right pocket of 15-year-old's jeans.

The were both cited for obstructing an officer, underage alcohol consumption and curfew violations.
