Bayside Vandalism Spree Hits Pickup, Mailbox and Patio Furniture

A recent vandalism spree in Bayside could certainly be considered odd.

On Sunday, a 46-year-old Bayside man reported his mailbox had been broken off and someone had poured bags of mulch and garbage into the open cab of his pickup truck. Both the doors and windows were unlocked so there was no forced entry. 

Police patrolled the neighborhood, looking for other signs of vandalism. They found some debris and mulch piled up in front of the main door at a home in the 530 block of East Baypoint Road. A metal bench was also placed at the end of the driveway. Police also found an empty 30-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer lying in the ditch in the 9300 block of Regent Road.

An officer had also found patio furniture in the middle of the road in the 9200 block of Regent Road. He moved it to the side of the road so it wouldn’t get run over. Just a few hours later, a nearby homeowner called to report his patio furniture missing.

Police took him to see the furniture that had been in the middle of the road and the homeowner confirmed it was his. Police helped him move the furniture back and spoke with other members of the man’s family. His son said when he came home abpit 10:30 p.m. Saturday, he heard people on the south end of their yard. When he walked around the side of the yard, he saw several people with flashlights. He didn’t notice the patio furniture was missing at that time.

Damage is estimated at $50 for the mailbox and there is no estimate on damage to the interior of the truck.

Police have no suspects at this time.
