Vandals Cause $10,000 in Damage at Cardinal Stritch

Officers began the vandalism investigation by meeting with the security officer who said between 12:20 a.m. and 1:42 a.m. Aug. 23, someone went into the College of Business faculty offices through an unlocked conference room, vandalized several pieces of office equipment, then ran down a stairwell and pulled the fire alarm.

At the west end of the office, there were also two Dell computers with whiteout spread on top of the computers, desks and chairs.

At the east end of office, a large Panasonic photocopier and a printer had severe damage to the control panels.

The damage for all items is estimated at more than $10,000, the police report said.

The property officers' catalogue includes:

  • Four desk drawers were found open and rummaged through;
  • A glass candle was smashed on the floor;
  • A glass mug was smashed on the floor;
  • The screen of desktop Dell computer was scratched;
  • There was severe damage to a computer screen and computer, with a sticky note left on the desk under the computer that said, "Hey I/we snuck in";
  • On a cubicle wall, officers found a profane statement written in an unknown black substance;
  • "HI" was written in lotion on the top of a desk.

The report said there were other misplaced items including a metal bell laying in the middle of the cubicle hallway, an empty wooden chest laying in a north hallway of the office area, several single sheets of paper lying in the central hallway near locked offices and a smashed brown egg on the base of a St. Bonaventure Statue outside the office area.

One of the residence hall directors supplied police with a list of students and video footage of the hall before and during the time of the alarm.

Police were able to get a partial print from a lotion bottle. Several others were recovered from the whiteout bottles.
