Erratic Driver Swipes Side Wall Before OWI Arrest

Bayside police chase man nearly one mile before he pulls over.

received a 911 call from a concerned driver about someone heading northbound on Interstate 43 and driving very erratically.

The report says the caller told officers the vehicle was traveling really fast, was weaving in and out of traffic and was all over the road Oct. 1. The caller also stated that the vehicle had struck the side wall of the expressway near Good Hope Road.Β 

Officers found the driver, later identified as a 60-year-old Milwaukee man, and when they tried to activate their emergency lights and pull the driver over, the he drover for more than 7/10 of a mile before pulling over, all while speeding and weaving across the lane markers.

The man finally pulled over in the 1700 block of Brown Deer Road. When offices approached the car, they could immediately smell alcoholic the report said. The driver had his wallet out and attempted to hand the officer his debit card instead of his license.

Officers asked the man if he had been drinking to which he replied, he was just at a party and he's trying to get home. He said he was at a party and had four or five beers before attempting to head home.

When police asked if he'd been in an accident, due to the information supplied by the 911 call earlier, the man denied any accidents or damage. However, when they looked over the vehicle, there was a large white scuff on the rear tire.

He was arrested for operating while under the influence and had a blood alcohol content of 0.16.
