Woman Arrested for OWI After Sending Bayside Mailbox 60 Feet

This drunk driver destroyed a few yards in Bayside and was then picked up by Whitefish Bay police.

A 26-year-old Milwaukee woman was pulled over at 12:24 a.m. Friday in the 5100 block of North Ardmore by Whitefish Bay police for driving on three tires and a rim, and police learned later that that wasn't all she'd done.

She was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated, and the car was towed due to damage. An Intoximeter test showed her blood alcohol content measured 0.14. She was cited for OWI, operating after suspension, and operating a motor vehicle without proper tires by Whitefish Bay police. She was released at 2:45 a.m. to another 26-year-old Milwaukee woman.

But about 4:15 that same morning, discovered some serious property damage that they later learned was caused by the same drunk driver.

Two Bayside officers were traveling along North Lake Drive and noticed dirt and branches on the roadway. They stopped to assess the damage and noticed the marks went for nearly 200 feet.

Judging by the damage, officers believed the vehicle first struck a small tree then hit and completely ripped off a mailbox, which was recovered roughly 60 feet away with the post in a neighboring driveway. A tree had also been damaged, with a crack in the bottom of the trunk and side trim from a vehicle lying on the ground next to the tree.
