Are We Half Way There Yet?

Bayside Village Hall takes a look at just how far residents have come in the Destination 650 goal for recycling. So far, the village is coming up a bit short.

Destination 650 is a goal the village set to recycling 650 tons in 2012. We are halfway through 2012 and it's time to check in on how we are doing.

  • To date, we have recycled 306.75 tons of recyclable materials;
  • At this time in 2011, we recycled 302.39 tons of recyclable materials;
  • We are 4.36 tons ahead of where we were in 2011;
  • We are 343.25 tons away from our goal of Destination 650;
  • We are 18.75 tons short of the halfway mark of 325 tons.

The figures show we are moving in the right direction, but we still need your help to reach our goal. The good news is there is still plenty of time left to get us back on track.

Recycling Pays

Remember, recycling doesn't only make environmental sense, but financial sense as well. The village pays tipping fees for materials that are diverted into landfills (garbage), and recycling as much as possible helps keep the garbage diversion rates down and tipping fees low.

The village saves nearly $50 in tipping fees for every ton that is recycled instead of diverted to a landfill. The 306.75 tons of materials that have been recycled so far in 2012 equates to over $15,300 in savings to the village.
