Four New Businesses on Their Way to Fox Point

Fresh Market grocery store and sporting goods store would occupy old Borders building.

A consignment shop, day care center, sporting goods store and a grocery store all will soon call Fox Point home.

The Plan Commission and Building Board held a joint meeting Tuesday night to approve the relocation of two businesses to the village as well as plans for four new business.

One new business that's making its way to Fox Point is the Fresh Market grocery store, which has been a hot topic of discussion since .

Tom Bowman, a representative for Fresh Market, told village officials that this store will be smaller than the average store by 3,000 to 4,000 square feet, and will only take over the upper portion of the old bookstore.

This new grocery store will bring 45 full-time, and 45 part-time jobs to Fox Point, and will be open Monday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. There also will be outdoor seating for customers.

Taking over the lower half of the old Border's Bookstore is Burghardt Sporting Goods. This store has operated in the Milwaukee area, beginning first downtown Milwaukee, then in Brookfield, since 1881.

, a high-end home decor shop, and , a day care facility, also will be coming to Fox Point.

The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music will relocate from the Riverpoint Village Shopping Center to Audubon Court, 333 W. Brown Deer Rd., Unit 2, taking over the spot previously used by Restaurant Hama.

Milwaukee Ballet School and Academy will also relocate, however, it will only be moving a few doors down, taking over the spot previously used by The Learning Shop, still within the River Point Shopping Center, 8665 N. Port Washington Rd.

The Building Board also approved an art installation at that will feature two, 25-foot-tall steel sculptures representing symbols of the Jewish faith.

All these items will go before the Fox Point Village Board Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. for final approval.
