Fox Point, Bayside Primed for Primary

The new voter identification law will be partially implemented for the first time in this election, which is expected to have high turnout.

On Tuesday, Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) will square off with β€œfake” Democrat Gladys Huber in that will be the first election held with new voter identification rules.

But these new rules are what Village Clerk Tanya O'Mally calls a "soft implementation," only requiring some changes this year, and additional changes next year.

Among other changes, O'Mally says that voters will be asked for identification, but for this election, not required to provide it. And if your ID is expired, she says it will still be accepted as long as it expired after Nov. 2, 2010. Voters also will be asked to sign a poll list in an effort to help reduce voter fraud.

The winner of Tuesday’s election will face state Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) in the general recall election Aug. 9. Turnout is expected to be high, and O'Mally has ordered enough ballots for about 105 percent of the 4,934 registered voters in Fox Point.

"I don't think we'll run the risk of running out of ballots," she said.
