High Turnout Expected in Bayside, Fox Point on Tuesday

Village clerks say large number of absentee ballots are good indication of huge interest in election.

Fox Point and Bayside voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to decide on some very hot topics, including whether to support a , who will be on the School Board, and which of the four candidates will fill two trustee positions on the Fox Point Village Board.

Fox Point Village Clerk Tanya O'Mally said there have been twice as many absentee ballots turned in already as opposed to last year, leading her to believe there will be a good turnout at the polls.

In Bayside, Director of Finance and Administration Lynn Galyardt said the village has received three times the number of absentee ballots that it normally does.

"It's been steady today, and normally we’re not the day before – it dies down usually," Galyardt said. "In 2010, we had a total of 91 absentees, as of Friday, I had 219."

As of 4 p.m. Monday, she said 282 absentee ballots had been issued and 266 had been returned.

For Bayside, there's no opposition for Samuel Dickman, 9410 N. Lake Dr., as village president, nor is there for the two trustee positions currently held by William Hersch, 9054 N. Bayside Dr., and Robb DeGraff, 9211 N. Regent Rd. These positions are for three years and members are paid $1,200 annually.

, newcomers Christine Symchych, 7240 N. Barnett Ln., and Kevin Behl, 700 E. Daisy Ln., are running for two seats on the board now held by trustees Bill Warner, 413 E Willow Rd., and Don Zien, 6406 N. Berkeley Blvd.

Village Presidnet Michael West, 7414 N. Seneca Rd., is running unopposed. These positions are for three years and unpaid.

In the Nicolet School District, Morton Grodsky, 559 W. Lubbe Ln., Glendale; Joseph Kasle, 2510 W. Dean Ct., River Hills; and Andrew Cegielski, 1600 W. Good Hope Rd., Glendale, are all seeking to fill the two seats now held by Kelly Herda and Laurel Bear.

A race for Supreme Court Justice between David T. Prosser, Jr. and Joanne F. Kloppenburg is also on the ballot. Kloppenburg has been a litigator and prosecutor at Wisconsin’s Department of Justice since 1989, and Prosser has served on the court for 12 years.

Finally, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Pedro Colon is being challenged by Christoper R. Lipscomb Sr. in for the Branch 18 seat.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Here are the polling places in Fox Point and Bayside:

  • Bayside residents can vote at , 601 E. Ellsworth Ln. Please use the Standish Place entrance.
  • Fox Point residents can vote at either the , 7300 N. Santa Monica Blvd., or the Longacre Pavilion, 7343 N. Longacre Rd.

If you live East of the train tracks from the north end of Fox Point, to just North of Good Hope Road, you are in Wards one through four, and you will vote at the Fox Point Police Department. If you life West of the train tracks and North of Good Hope Road, you are in wards five through nine, and will vote at Longacre Pavillion.

But to be sure where you should vote,  or whether you're registered, check out the state's Voter Public Access web site. You also can find a sample ballot on the site.

If you haven't registered to vote yet, you can do so at the polls on Tuesday as long as you have proof of residence, which can include a driver's license or state identification card, a utility bill, property tax bills, leases and other documents.
