Taxes and Tots

One more yard waste collection day, real estate taxes en route, Toys for Tots and so much more.

Yard Waste One More Time

Due to the continued nice weather (especially the 50 degree temperatures forecasted for this weekend), the Village WILL collect Yard waste (twigs, branches, bagged material) again on Monday, December 3.

This will be the final opportunity for residents to put out branches, twigs, yard waste bags, bags of leaves (no plastic), and all other organic material.  Any material placed curbside after the Monday pickup will result in a tag requiring a special pickup.

Real Estate Taxes

It is anticipated that tax bills will be arriving in homes next week. Every dollar of taxes is divided to different taxing jurisdictions based upon your home's location. The breakdown for each jurisdiction is as follows (some amounts vary slightly based upon school district and County):

Preparing to Sell

If you're planning on selling your home, make sure you stop into Village Hall to schedule a residential code compliance.  The code compliance is a requirement prior to closing on the home, checking for the prevent of hazardous conditions and threat to the well-being of occupants.  The compliance permits are good for up to one year, and now, the price is going DOWN!

Beginning December 1, 2012, the cost to complete the code compliance is going from .11/sq. ft to .08/sq. ft - which can amount to up to $80 in savings!  For more information, contact Village Hall today!

Toys for Tots

Many of you have already taken advantage of the opportunity to bring items to be recycled at Village Hall, including:

  • CFL Light bulbs;
  • Batteries;
  • Electronics;
  • Ink Cartridges;
  • Anything that plugs in!

Now, you can bring a seasonal item - Toys for Tots will be accepted at Village Hall as well.  Simply stop in during regular business hours to drop off any of the items listed above.

Mark Your Calendars

The Village will be holding two special drop off events for extra material accumulated during the holiday season. Residents (ID required) will be able to drop off the following items:

  • Garbage (Bagged);
  • Recycling;
  • Yard Waste;
  • Electronics (anything that plugs in).

Residents will be able to bring these items to Village Hall on Thursday, December 27 (3pm - 6pm) and Thursday, January 3, 2012 (3pm - 6pm) - using the Sled Hill parking lot.

Rental Option

Stop into Village Hall to rent a garbage and/or recycling container for a one-time use!  For just $25 for the first container, and $5 for each thereafter, these rentals provide a easy way to get rid of all your leftovers at once.  Village crews will deliver your extra container(s), and pick them up after they've been emptied - you'll just need to put them out with your regular collection.  For more information, contact Alex Henderson, or stop into Village Hall today.

A Water Follow Up

We've received several questions regarding the voluntary water program since the Buzz last week.  As reported, those interested in participating must inform the newly formed private trust by December 10, 2012 at noon.  This cut off date is required so that final surveying, engineering, and the bid documents can be assembled for distribution in early 2013.

One of the many questions raised included the safety of municipal water versus private well water.  The Environmental Protection Agency has outlined a few options for those with private wells.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
