The Importance of Our Infrastructure

As citizens of the Badger State, one of the core principles that we emphasize is keeping our infrastructure strong throughout Wisconsin – roads, bridges, and ports are an instrumental part of our economy. Because of our strong manufacturing history, Wisconsin’s workforce relies very heavily on our transportation infrastructure.

Unfortunately in years past, politicians have not respected the importance of our transportation fund. Under former Governor Jim Doyle, in order to pay for costly spending initiatives in his continually bloated budgets, he raided millions from the state’s transportation fund.

Governor Scott Walker has made it a priority in his budget to rebuild Wisconsin’s infrastructure. Instead of allowing our roads, bridges, and ports to deteriorate, he has made sure funding necessary projects are a prime importance in the budget. By investing now, Governor Walker is highlighting the importance of funding our transportation infrastructure is to our future. With this investment, businesses will grow and more jobs will be created.

By prioritizing existing state revenues and reforming ongoing operations, we will ensure that state infrastructure projects get finished in a timely matter and that new and necessary projects are initiated. As a result of his investments, major highways and smaller thoroughfares will see a dramatic improvement.

Governor Walker understands the importance of this investment. In fact, just last year in 2012 Wisconsin’s exports hit a record $22 billion. The significance of a working infrastructure can’t be ignored. By investing now into our transportation system, we are not only looking out for the short term of Wisconsin’s economy – but also the long term prosperity of all Wisconsinites.
