Spread that Volunteer Bug

Students stories of volunteering experiences just may inspire others to volunteer, as well.

One of our Audubon Teachers attended the Shorewood High School’s National Honor Society’s Completion ceremony as a parent last week, and came back with an interesting report.

The students were required to volunteer in four areas, one specifically for an environmental cause.  Students were asked to make a short speech about their favorite volunteer experience.  Our teacher was happy to hear that five students reported to the audience that the was their favorite place to volunteer! These young environmentalists felt that the children they helped through summer camp, and during the after school programs positively impacted both the children and themselves! Others loved working on the land management teams, picking invasive species or just helping to maintain the Center's beautiful appearance.  One boy said that he found ripping out buckthorn a great stress reliever!

Here at SANC, we couldn't be more proud to have such inspiring young people in our community. We are so grateful that students understand the importance of volunteering in their communities and the positive impact it can have on themselves and the people they are helping.
