Scholaris Gifted Academy Update August, 2013

September 3rd, our first day of school, is quickly approaching and we have
been busy at Scholaris Gifted Academy in preparation for that exciting day! It is truly amazing to witness how much has been accomplished through the support of the Scholaris Community.

Thank you to all who have donated time, materials, supplies, and/or have made monetary contributions to SGA. Each donation will help to better serve our gifted learners; we continue to accept donations and are open every day from 8:30-4:30. We are still in need of many materials and supplies, so keep us in mind if you have items we may be able to use!

SGA Kick-Off

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Scholaris Gifted Academy Kick-Off on July 30th. It was a pleasure to meet new children and families as well as to reconnect with familiar faces. The children enjoyed one another’s company, too, as much laughter and conversation was heard throughout the evening.

A gracious and heartfelt “thank you” to ABB (http://www.abb.us/), the New Berlin, WI based organization which generously donated the delicious food and provided the delightful entertainment for the SGA Kick-Off.  Parents were able to enjoy the presentation and have meaningful conversations with other supporters of gifted learners; children enjoyed connecting with other gifted learners of all ages and were entertained by a magician and a balloon genius.

Meet and Greet Sessions

SGA “Meet and Greet” sessions were held on August 7th and 8th for existing and prospective students. Students aged 4-6 constructed marble runs using recyclable materials, and after much thought, creativity, and teamwork, the young scholars created a working marble run with many innovative features.

Learners aged 5-13 worked with Jerry Hoefs, a Master Science Teacher, educational specialist, and entrepreneur from the area. Students conducted several experiments using dry ice while exploring the basic principles of chemistry and physics. As a final project during the session, they made and ate tasty “Dry Ice-Ice Cream,” which the students cleverly coined 109 Below.

Our next “Meet and Greet” session will be held on Wednesday, August 14, from 10:00-11:00 am. Please pass this information along to parents and children that might enjoy working with other gifted learners and learning more about our school.

Round Table Discussion

Parents are invited to attend a Round Table discussion on Wednesday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 113 at Scholaris. This is a parent Q&A gathering, and we will have supervised games and activities outdoors for the children so that parents may have a relaxed and focused discussion. Please join us!

Open House

Scholaris Gifted Academy will host an Open House on Tuesday, August 20, from 4-7 p.m.  Please spread the word!! Our goal is to assist families of gifted learners and provide the needed educational, social, and emotional support.

We are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting first year as we continue the vision and life work of our legacy, Sharon Gerleman.
