5 Perfect ACT Scores Posted at Nicolet

Nicolet High School defies the odds as five students land perfect scores.

Of the more than 1 million ACT test-takers each testing year, fewer than one-tenth of 1 percent land a perfect score. It's a rarity.

But Nicolet High School has defied the odds with not one, not two, but five students posting perfect scores of 36 on the college admission and placement exam this testing year.

"It’s phenomenal, I’m so proud of our school," said Superintendent Rick Monroe. "It's truly amazing to say five students have perfect scores for a relatively small school."

Seniors Nancy Gao and Annie Jen, twin sisters Alexandra Heuer and Rachel Heuer, and Ben Lawton all were perfect on the ACT this testing year.

Monroe said five other seniors were one point away from perfect scores. And out a senior class of 257 students, 50 scored at least 30. A lot of Nicolet juniors haven't taken the ACT test yet this school year, so Monroe said the high school could add to its perfect scores.

"It says a quality school makes quality results," he said. "A quality school really matters for student achievement. We are able to challenge our students with a rigorous curriculum."

The high-performing students reflect how much the community values education, Monroe said, saying residents passed a referendum two years ago because increased class sizes and cuts to programs, and staff weren't acceptable.

"The community said Nicolet is a great school, and we want to keep it great," he said.

Nicolet has built in academic supports and there is an expectation that if a student needs assistance, they will receive it, Monroe continued.

ACT test scores are accepted by all major U.S. colleges, and exceptional scores of 36 provide colleges with evidence of student readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead.
