Energy Efficiencies Eyed by Fox Point-Bayside Schools

Eyeing reductions in energy costs, Fox Point-Bayside school officials approved a contract with Johnson Controls, for $293,000 in energy efficiency projects at Stormonth Elementary and Bayside Middle School.

Looking for ways to cut utlity costs, Fox Point-Bayside school officials have approved a contract with Johnson Controls for $293,000 in energy efficiency projects.

Under the agreement, Johnson Controls will perform upgrades and improvements, and further insulate the boiler room at Stormonth Elementary School at a cost of $252,621. Additionally, the company will replace faucets, and toilet and urinal flushers at Bayside Middle School, costing $41,269.

Since it’s a performance contract, the district is allowed to exceed the state-imposed revenue limit to pay for the projects. Officials budgeted $450,000 in the district's 2012-13 budget for revenue limit exemption projects.

Johnson Controls initially came forward with a comprehensive list of $1.2 million in possible projects, but school officials later vetted and narrowed the list to a handful of projects.

Officials earlier moved forward with $118,000 in projects addressing a water issue at Bayside Middle School — bringing the cost of all projects to $412,129. The district will use a portion of the difference between the project cost and the budgeted amount, $37,000, for asbestos remediation during some of the work at Stormonth.
