Knights Update: Broken Records and Nearly All Wins in Volleyball

A roundup of sports events from Nicolet High School last week, and a look ahead to this week.

Here is a roundup of sports events for the last week at, courtesy of Athletic Director Kirk Krychowiak:

The Nicolet girls tennis team competed in the individual state tournament
over the weekend. In the singles tournament: Emily Mone won two rounds
before falling in the round of 16 to the 8th seed. Freshman Nina Gerard
won her first round and lost to the no. 1 seed in the second round. Emma Wathen lost a tough match to Oshkosh West in the first round. In doubles: Erin
Wathen and Michelle Margolies, both freshmen, lost in the first round in a
close match to Eau Claire Memorial. Erin Miller and Sara Miller had a
great tournament. They finished third over all - they beat Sheboygan North in
their first round, Merrill in the second round, Brookfield East in the
quarter-finals, and Brookfield Central for third place. They lost to DSHA
in the semis. The team heads to Madison for team state at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The boys and girls cross country teams raced in the Meet of Future Champions on Thursday at Rotary Park as a warm-up to the Sectionals at Washington Park on Saturday for a chance to go to State!

The boys' volleyball team defeated Homestead in three games on Wednesday. On Saturday at the Whitefish Bay invite, the team went on to finish third in a tournament featuring many of the states best. On Saturday, senior Dan Mulcahy broke the career record for blocks, passing the 114.5 mark set previously by Garrett Werner. This week the team faces Germantown, a win and the Knights will be conference champions outright and a loss would force them to share the title with Germantown.

The team has earned the no. 1 seed in the upcoming WIAA Tournament. The
frosh and JV teams will compete in the NSC meet at Whitefish Bay High School on Friday. Saturday, the varsity will compete in the Homestead Invite.

The girls volleyball team won the 2011 conference championship. The team finished 7-0 in the conference dual season and placed third in the conference tournament. The team will play in the regional finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Nicolet. After defeating Whitefish Bay in straight sets last week, the team finished with a perfect conference record for the third time in the last four years. The team has amassed a 27-1 recored during this time, the best four-year conference record in school history. The team has earned the no. 1 seed in their sectional.

The Nicolet football team finished their season with a record of 3-6 after
a loss on the road to Whitefish Bay.

The girls swim team defeated Germantown last week 104-81 and 138-31 in varsity and JV action. Winning varsity events for the Knights were Christa Rumbaugh, Sophie Jokumsen, Kim Charles, Grace Wilkie, Sarah Zelazowski and Sophia Carlson. Sophie Cohen and Hanah Keckeisen were double JV winners. The team hosts Whitefish Bay Tuesday at 6 p.m. and the divers will travel to Nenah High School on Saturday for an invite.

The boys soccer team's season ended with a loss in the regional championship to Milwaukee Ronald Reagan last Thursday 5-3 at Pulaski High School.
