Knights Update: Fair Scores 1,000th Career Point

Girls basketball player reaches milestone as top-ranked team continues winning streak.

Here is a roundup of athletic events at Nicolet High School, courtesy of athletic director Kirk Krychowiak:

The girls basketball team improved its record to 14-0 (8-0 in the North Shore Conference) by thrashing Homestead 58-38 on the road last Friday.  Seven Knights scored: Sara Travia (2), Becca Olin (9), Michelle Peltz (3), Katherine Richter (1), Lanoira Duhart (8), Briana Gray (12) and Brittney Fair (23).  

Fair scored her 1,000th point at Nicolet, placing her fourth on the all-time girls basketball scoring list.  The girls are now an incredible 60-4 in their last 64 games.  This week, the team will play at Milwaukee Lutheran on Tuesday and host Port Washington on Friday.

The boys basketball team lost to Homestead at home last Friday 68-54. Eugene Bonner again led the team in scoring with 15.  Gregg Pigg scored 13 and Tyler Miller dropped in 12.  Nolan Wagner (3), Corey Smith (9) and Jerry Luckett Jr. (2) also scored for the Knights. This week, the boys will host Milwaukee Lutheran on Tuesday and travel to Port Washington on Friday night.

The boys swim/dive team defeated conference rival Whitefish Bay last Thursday in a huge conference battle to finish the conference dual season 5-1.  This week, the team will be busy.  The divers will travel to Cedarburg on Thursday for the North Shore Conference meet and the rest of the swimmers will compete on Saturday when they host the NSC Meet at the Nicolet Pool.  The JVers will travel to Homestead on Friday for the JV conference meet.

The wrestling team lost to Germantown and Whitefish Bay in dual meets last week but will look to bounce back this week as they prepare for the North Shore Conference meet at Grafton on Saturday.

The Nicolet/University School girls hockey co-op team traveled to the western part of the state to play games on Friday and Saturday.  On Friday night, the team defeated Black River Falls 6-3.  On Saturday, the girls lost to Onalaska 5-1.  Abby Berman scored a goal in the team's win on Friday.  The team is now 14-7-1 and will return home to face Beaver Dam in a conference showdown at 7 p.m. on Saturday at U-School.

The Nicolet/Whitefish Bay/Shorewood boys hockey co-op team is now 9-9-1 (3-3-1 conference) after a pair of losses last week to Baraboo (in overtime) 2-1 and Kenosha 6-3.  The team will skate Wednesday at the Kern Center against Waukesha and Friday at the Ozaukee Ice Center vs. Grafton.

The gymnastics team hosts Whitefish Bay on Thursday in the back gym.

The ski team competed last Thursday with the girls varsity winning behind a great performance from Claire Kopetsky, who just missed gold by 13-hundredths of a second, and Megan McMahon's bronze.

The boys varsity ski team took second with Mike Noonan taking second and Joe Tarnowski fifth.  The girls JV won with Ellie Mittelstadt taking first place and Leila Kane fifth. The boys JV also won with Robby Abrahamian taking gold for the second time this season, Sam Shields taking second and Andrew Kuhn fourth. On Thursday, the team will race again at Heiliger Hill Ski Club near Holy Hill.

The dance team competed in the Southern Regionals Dance Competition last Saturday and ranked among the elite finishing 10th overall in D2 Pom and fifth overall in D2 Hip Hop.  The team gave their best pom performance of the season and coupled that with a highly energetic hip hop routine.  In addition to continuing to perform at halftime at the Nicolet varsity basketball games on Fridays, the team is now preparing for the Nationals in Navy Pier on April 14th.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Room (F106), Nicolet will celebrate "National Letter of Intent Signing Day" by honoring two special athletes. Seniors Kristy Leopold and Alex Walker will be signing letters of intent to play collegiate level athletics.  Kristy will be playing soccer for Southwest Minnesota State University (Mustangs), located in Marshall, MN.  Alex will be signing on as a "preferred walk-on" in football at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Badgers).  Please join us as we celebrate these fine student-athletes.

The next Nicolet Booster Club Fundraiser will be at McDonald's in Fox Point from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6. Twenty percent of all sales during this time will be donated to Nicolet Athletics.
