Lakeshore Lacrosse Tops Powerhouse Marquette 8-7

The co-op Lakeshore Ripsharks includes players from all along the North Shore. Anders Bjella was the scoring hero for the game with seven of the Ripsharks' eight goals. Quinn Mooney was the winning goalie.

Lakeshore goalie Quinn Mooney notched key saves to support a balanced scoring attack to win Tuesday's game against perennial high school lacrosse powerhouse Marquette, 8-7.

Each time last year's state runner-up threatened to tie the game, Mooney came up with critical stops in the last five minutes of the game.  Mooney finished the game with 14 saves.

The Ripsharks started the game with back-to-back goals in the first minute. Senior Anders Bjella opened the scoring, quickly followed by Dakota Kwasny's goal off a nice inside feed from Dante Giacobassi.  Giacobassi has had an assist in each of Lakeshore's games this season.

Marquette's Joey Kessler answered with a strike through traffic with an assist from Nick Tjarksen.  Lakeshore's Bjella had two quick tallies to end the quarter, including a rocket from 30 yards out. Five different Marquette players traded goals with Bjella over the rest of the game, but were ultimately frustrated by solid Lakeshore defense led by Andrew Reidy, Kelly Jackson and Lucas Zoromsky. Reidy had two key take-aways in the last two minutes of the game that killed Marquette's momentum.  Despite often being double and triple teamed, Bjella finished the game with seven goals.
