Letter to the Editor: Nicolet Referendum Propaganda
Larry Booth expands on his views of the Nicolet referendum.
Editor's Note: This letter was written by Larry Booth.
Groups aligned with the Nicolet teachers union continue to publish misleading information in their effort to get the $10 million school referendum passed.
In a recent flyer the Nicolet Forward Committee said, “Teachers have sacrificed salary and benefits.” The truth is the Nicolet School Board has never decreased or even frozen teacher salaries in a union contract. In fact, the School Board just rewarded the teachers with a 2 percent annual increase retroactive to 2009. And on March 14, the School Board went even further by promising the teacher’s union that salaries will not be touched in any future contract.

If there really is a revenue shortage, as the School Board and union want us to believe, that is an incredibly irresponsible action on the part of the School Board.
Keep in mind that Nicolet teachers are already the highest paid public school teachers in Wisconsin at $103,300 in salary and benefits. And yet the School Board and the teachers union are asking residents to make sacrifices and pay an additional $10 million in school taxes without making any real sacrifices themselves.

The school board and the teachers union should be ashamed of themselves.
